Tye & Dye

So I have these tye dye jeans that I don’t wear often. I think they are little wild, a little sexy and a little fun all rolled in one! I’ve worn them in the past with a white top and sandals for a casual look, however this time I wanted to go just a tad dressier. It’s amazing what a black tank, a pair of pumps and some wine colored lipstick can do! Shout out to my little guy who was my photographer for the night! 😘

Feeling Grey?

Ever woke up and felt like wearing grey? Ok, me neither! Black maybe, but not grey and certainly not the two together. This day I wanted to wear something with color, but the clock was saying I was running late and needed to make a decision!

Typically the day before church I like to pick out my clothes along with the kids, however, that did not happen. I had settled on wearing these black straight leg pull on pants, but couldn’t find the right colorful top to coordinate. Of course, when in doubt, you go for what is obvious and always works…grey of course! Maybe next time I will add a thin black belt for an even more polished look. 🙄

A Trendy Momma

Today I have the pleasure of sharing a fabulous fellow blogger and stylist that I know named Sovanny Vu aka “Mode Madison.” Shortly after I stumbled upon her on Instagram,  I became intrigued with her street fashion and sense of style. I also learned she had begun blogging not long before and challenged herself to not go clothes shopping for a year, but instead reinvent her looks solely from what she already owned in her closet. Talk about dedication and will power!

Sovanny lives in  Australia with her husband (who is also her awesome photographer) and adorable 2 1/2 year old daughter. Just recently, she left a career of 7 years working in HR to take her love of fashion to the next level by starting her own personal styling business and online vintage shop. Now that she is expecting her second child, she is sharing some helpful tips of styling while being pregnant. As many of us mothers know, styling a growing belly can have its challenges, however having a few key pieces can make a world of difference! 🙂

“Earlier this year my little family went in a holiday and when we returned I was pregnant.  It wasn’t planned but like most things,  you can hardly plan a pregnancy. Feeling blessed, we have watched my belly go from flat to a beach ball. If I recall right, it was 6 months before I started to show in my first pregnancy.  With this pregnancy I was in maternity pants by 3 months and asked if I was having twins at 4 months.  I just laughed because I know I’m showing a little earlier.

Day to day now there’s the challenge of what I’m going to wear. I should be familiar with this, but I’m not. As most mothers will tell you, your sense of style changes incredibly once you step into motherhood. Mostly it’s going from fitted to loose clothing.  So for me it changed and it’s changing again. For the first 3 months I was so fatigue and couldn’t be bothered getting out of my pajamas but now, at 25 weeks, I feel great. Tired at times but overall it’s been business as usual.

image

With Winter in Australia,  it’s been cold in Melbourne with so I’ve adopted my usual layering techniques and have fallen in love with the likes of joggers and leggings. I also opt for comfortable footwear so you’ll see me walking around in either boots, ballet flats or my high-tops. If I can get away with it, a larger size is preferred rather than maternity wear because I’d like to know I could wear it post pregnancy. I know all this doesn’t sound so stylish but working from home means casual attire works.

Some light makeup also helps me to lift up my mood and I still love to blog about style. In addition to all my collaborative pieces, of late, there’s also my “Bumptastic” edition (found on blog), which tends to feature my little one who like her momma loves to dress up. Overall, looking a feeling good hasn’t gone without effort. It’s little things like getting out of what I went to sleep in and taking the time to have nutritious meals that has gone a long way in making me feel beautiful and bumptastic.”

Thanks for reading.

Chocolate Brown: A Comfort Color

The perfect day to take the family out and enjoy one of my favorite treats, Italian ice! We stopped by Bruster’s which is not too far from the house and everyone had their favorites. I went for watermelon and my husband went for a raspberry berry flavor of Italian ice while the kids decided to go for chocolate ice cream. It was definitely great weather for the tasty treats and for some picture taking!

I decided to wear one of my favorite utility style tops that I got from a consignment shop a few years ago that is no longer in business. I just love the fact it is easy to wear with jeans and has a little flare to it with the added drawstring at the waist. We all know chocolate tends to be classified as a “comfort food.” Well I like to consider chocolate brown has my comfort color! 🙂 It makes me warm and fuzzy inside. Lol. I also think I wear it well, what do you think?

The Process-Getting Organized

When it comes to closet organization, everyone’s closet is always different from the last. This particular closet that I had the pleasure of working with in the Spring took some time, but it was worth it and a lot of fun! After 4 hours  we collected 4 bags of clothes and a bag  full of hangers to dispose of,  (this was on top of the 5 bags she had done on her own prior to my arrival)!

imageMy client had three different closets in which she kept her clothes and one of them was in another bedroom. Like with any organization, I like to walk my clients through their closets showing them what things work and what things don’t and begin to purge (Don’t worry, I’m always willing to compromise, be it that you have really good reasoning). 🙂 Next, we do classification. This is most helpful when your searching for sweaters or collar shirts because they will all have their perspective locations making it easier for you to find at any given time.
image

Depending on how big your closet is will determine if you will be able to keep all your clothes out or have them stored and rotated. With this particular client, she had enough closet space between the three to keep everything out for each season of the year. Once we are done classifying, I show you how to make multiple outfits using what you already own and adding suggestive pieces.
image

Lastly, we can discuss other helpful tips such storage for shoes, jewelry and other accessories. In the case of this client, I provided her some ideas on helpful storage units she can use to organize her shoes on her own. I never leave without giving my clients a checklist of the basic pieces they need to complete their wardrobe for every season. The best thing I can ever do for my clients is to show them how to make the most out of what they have and help them build from there. Now that Fall is vastly approaching,  my only question is…whose next? 🙂

From Dress to Skirt

If you remember, this past Spring my mother bought me this bright and pink beautiful tube dress for my birthday. Since featuring  it on the blog a couple of months ago, I wanted to wear it again, but as a skirt! I’ll admit,  because of the material it doesn’t lay flat around the belly and has a tendency to puff up. Nevertheless, I think I made the look work for me.  What do you think?
